Just How important is Christmas?

What event in the news is that which has effected the course of the world more than any other?

  • Those TV year in review programs – or even the past ten years or even millennium!
  • I doubt anyone would say the High Court’s decision re Citizenship status of parliamentarians
  • Overthrow in Zimbabwe of President Mugabe?
  • Rise of China and its expansion into disputed areas of Sth China Sea

Just how life changing is the coming of Christ to us today? Is it really significant any longer?

  • Growth and spread worldwide of influence of Islam
  • Decline of Western Culture
  • Launch of Ramsay Institude in Australia to promote orginis of Western Civilization as based on Judaeo-Christian roots.

Is it today really shaping world history?

This leads us to think today about the relevance of Christmas

Are there better things to do Christmas morning than to be in church?

John 1:14–18 (NIV84)

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”

16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.

17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.

Matthew 28:16–20 (NIV84)

16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
